FSIS Notice on Sampling of Chicken for Nitrofurans
The notice is being reissued to inform inspection program personnel (IPP) of the continuance of nitrofuran sampling under the U.S. National Residue Program (NRP). The sampling instructions to IPP on collecting young chicken carcasses at a point prior to chilling for testing for nitrofurans, including the marker residue semicarbazide (SEM) will remain unchanged.
FNS Vacates Rule on Reducing Nutrition Requirements for Foods in Child Nutrition Programs, Issues New Rule
The vacated rule was previously invalidated by the Federal District Court of Maryland and allowed for more chocolate milk, fewer whole grains and more salt in foods eligible for child nutrition programs. FNS is issuing a new rule in an attempt to comply with the court ruling.

FSIS Notice on Barcodes in Lieu of Shipping Marks on Australian Beef
The notice provides instructions to inspection program personnel (IPP) for applying the official import mark of inspection for shipments of fresh meat products exported to the United States from establishments in Australia with barcodes in lieu of shipping marks on shipping containers. For such shipments from Australia, following product reinspection, instead of applying the USDA official import mark of inspection to the individual shipping cartons, the mark is applied only to the barcode placard on each pallet in the shipment.
