Nominations Now Open for the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee
HHS and USDA announced the public call for nominations to the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. The committee will review scientific evidence to help inform the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030. The departments will seek to appoint a committee that is balanced in expertise, experience, and education, and is reflective of the racial, ethnic, gender, and geographic diversity within the United States. Members of the public are invited to submit nominations for themselves or other qualified experts by July 15, 2022, at 11:59 PM E.T.
USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for New Mexico Disaster Areas
USDA announced that low-income New Mexico residents in five counties (Colfax, Lincoln, Mora, San Miguel and Valencia) recovering from the wildfires that started on April 6, 2022, could be eligible for support from the USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
2022/2023 Rates Charged for AMS Services
AMS announced the 2022/2023 rates it will charge for voluntary grading, inspection, certification, auditing, and laboratory services for a variety of agricultural commodities including meat and poultry, fruits and vegetables, eggs, dairy products, rice, and cotton and tobacco. The 2022/2023 regular, overtime, holiday, and laboratory services rates will be applied at the beginning of the crop year, fiscal year or as required by law depending on the commodity.
Access to Fertilizer: Competition and Supply Chain Concerns
AMS is providing an additional 30 days for comments and information from the public regarding competition-related challenges in the U.S. fertilizer market and other obstacles to producers accessing affordable, responsibly manufactured fertilizer.
Domestic Quarantine Regulations; Quarantined Areas and Regulated Articles
USDA is proposing to revise the regulations that govern domestic quarantines for various plant pests by removing lists of quarantined areas and regulated articles from the regulations in order to maintain these lists on web pages maintained by the Agency. They are proposing these amendments because they would allow the Agency to be more responsive in updating the lists. These changes would allow USDA to use a notice-based, streamlined approach to update the lists while continuing to protect plant health.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program: Civil Rights Update to the Federal-State Agreement
This final rule updates the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program civil rights assurance template language for the Federal-State Agreement. These updates do not contain any new requirements and would codify protections already required by Federal law and existing policy.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program; Availability of Foods for Fiscal Year 2022
This notice announces the surplus and purchased foods that the Department expects to make available for donation to States for use in providing nutrition assistance to the needy under The Emergency Food Assistance Program in Fiscal Year 2022. The foods made available under this notice must, at the discretion of the State, be distributed to eligible recipient agencies for use in preparing meals and/or for distribution to households for home consumption.
