Update to Dietary Supplement Ingredient Advisory List Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition

FDA Sends Warning Letters to Multiple Companies for Illegally Selling Adulterated Dietary Supplements
FDA posted warning letters to multiple companies for selling adulterated dietary supplements that contain, in some cases, new dietary ingredients (NDIs) for which the FDA has not received the required premarket NDI notifications and, in others, unsafe food additives. Some of the identified dietary supplements also are drugs, despite lacking approval, because they are intended for use in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease. These products could potentially harm consumers.
First Round of Proposals for Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities Shows Strong Interest
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the first round of funding through the new Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities received over 450 proposals ranging from $5 million to $100 million each.
FSIS to Host Webinars on Revised Appendices A & B
On May 23 and May 24, 2022, FSIS will host webinars to provide an overview of the recently revised 2021 Cooking Guideline for Meat and Poultry Products (Revised Appendix A) and 2021 Stabilization Guideline for Meat and Poultry Products (Revised Appendix B). The webinars will also provide an opportunity for participants to ask questions. The May 23 webinar will be held from 1-3 p.m. ET. The May 24 webinar will be held from 9-11 a.m. ET.
Listing of Color Additives Exempt From Certification; Antarctic Krill Meal
FDA is amending the color additive regulations to provide for the safe use of Antarctic krill meal, composed of the ground and dried tissue of Euphausia superba, with or without the lipid fraction, for use in the feed of salmonid fish, to enhance the color of their flesh.
Petition Submitted by North American Meat Institute
The North American Meat Institute submitted a petition requesting that FSIS delete the Moisture Protein Ration reference from the “Jerky” entry in the FSIS Food Standards and Labeling Policy Book.
FDA CORE Outbreak Investigation Status Update
This week’s updates are:
- For the investigation with reference number 1064, the total adverse event reports increased to 555.
- For the investigation of Cronobacter illnesses linked to powdered infant formula the investigation status has been changed to Active (IMG) as this incident is not being managed by a CORE Response Team and FDA established an Incident Management Group (IMG) to manage this investigation. Updates will continue to be provided.
- For the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak in an unidentified food (reference #1040), the case count has increased to 20 cases.
