FSVP Program

Yes. The FSVP regulations explicitly state you can hire a third-party such as US Food Imports to write and implement your FSVP program. Under 21 CFR § 1.500 a "qualified individual" who performs FSVP compliance "is not required to be, an employee of the importer."

The FSVP importer is responsible for verifying that the food is produced in a manner that meets standards in the Preventive Controls for Human Food, Preventive Controls for Animal Food and Produce Safety Rule as applicable. The FSVP importer must also verify that the food is not adulterated or misbranded with respect to allergen labelling.

Suppliers that control hazards that could lead to serious adverse health consequences or death are required to be audited annually onsite unless the importer can document a food safety justification for not doing so. Other verification activities an importer may conduct include lot-by-lot sampling and testing and review of the supplier's food safety records.

Erik helped create the official FSVP training materials with FDA as a member of the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance.
