FDA Update on Enhancing Traceability

The Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods, Jim Jones, provided an update on the status of the implementation of the FSMA Section 204 Traceability Rule. Deputy Commissioner Jones emphasized the agency continues to release resources that can be used by industry to support implementation. FDA to Host Webinar on Voluntary Sodium Reduction Goals

FDA will host a stakeholder webinar on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 1:00 pm ET to provide an overview of the recently released draft guidance outlining new, voluntary targets for sodium reduction in foods, as well as a preliminary assessment of progress 2010-2022. The draft guidance serves as Phase II of the FDA’s stepwise sodium reduction efforts and builds on the sodium reduction goals issued in 2021, now referred to as Phase I. 

FDA Releases FY 2022 Pesticide Residue Monitoring Report

FDA made available its annual Pesticide Residue Monitoring Program Report for Fiscal Year 2022, summarizing findings from FDA testing of human and animal foods for 757 different pesticides and selected industrial compounds from October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022.

FDA CORE Outbreak Investigation Status Update

This week’s updates are:

  • A new outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis (ref #1250) linked to a not yet identified product has been added to the table. FDA has initiated an onsite inspection and sample collection.
  • For the outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 (ref #1249) linked to a not yet identified product, the case count has increased from 25 to 26.
  • For the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1247) linked to a not yet identified product, FDA has initiated sample collection.  
  • For the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis illnesses (ref #1245) linked to a not yet identified product, the case count has increased from 41 to 50 cases.
  • For the outbreak of Salmonella Newport (ref #1248) linked to a not yet identified product, the case count has increased from 6 to 7.
  • For the outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium (ref #1234) linked to a not yet identified product, FDA has initiated an onsite inspection.
  • For the investigation of illnesses (ref #1233) linked to Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies, the advisory has been updated to include additional illnesses and sample results.
