Section 232 Tariffs Apply to Certain Food Imports
The Trump Administration has applied Section 232 Tariffs on steel and aluminum to certain food imports. Food imports under certain tariff classifications are required to report, value and pay 50% tariffs on the steel and aluminum content of their packaging and containers.
The impacted tariff codes may be found here in chapter 99 and include: 0402.99.68; 0402.99.70; 0402.99.90 (canned evaporated, condensed and sweetened milk or cream) and 2106.90.9998 (other processed foods).
Some of these products are subject to FDA FCE/SID registration requirements.
For products classified under these tariff codes, the country of smelt and cast (aluminum) or melt and pour (steel) must be indicated. The value and quantity of the steel and aluminum must also be reported. The Section 232 tariffs are 50% and apply to the value of the steel and aluminum content.
