Food Industry Regulatory Update – June 19, 2026

FDA held a virtual public meeting on June 15, 2026, to discuss compliance flexibilities for FSMA Section 204 food traceability requirements, including potentially allowing a range of lot codes. The compliance deadline has been extended by Congress to July 28, 2028.

FDA also issued warning letters to MGR Produce and YS Group for Foreign Supplier Verification Program violations. Active outbreak investigations involve Clover Hill Dairy Soft Cheese, Fry Pie Factory Pepperoni Rolls, First Street Dark Chocolate Raisins, and Nara Organic Infant Formula. Recent import alerts address pesticides, debarred entities, and human pathogen contamination.

FDA Public Meeting: FSMA 204 Food Traceability Flexibility

FDA held its virtual public meeting titled “Challenges and Solutions in Lot-Level Food Traceability” on June 15, 2026. The meeting discussed compliance flexibilities FDA is considering for the implementation of Section 204 of FSMA. As a reminder, the compliance deadline was extended by Congress to July 28, 2028. FDA is considering allowing a range of lot codes to satisfy traceability requirements, among other things. This discussion paper outlines FDA’s thoughts on increasing compliance flexibility. FDA Issues Warning Letters for FSVP Violations

FDA continues to heavily enforce compliance with the Foreign Supplier Verification Program. This week the agency published warning letters issued to MGR Produce and YS Group for FSVP violations.
