FDA Provides Update on Proposal for Unified Human Foods Program
FDA is providing an update on its proposal to create a unified Human Foods Program, which includes a new model for the Office of Regulatory Affairs. These additions to the FDA Commissioner’s proposal announced earlier this year will further enhance coordination, prevention and response activities across the FDA, enabling the agency to better support its public health mission. Read the full update and the proposed changes here.
FSIS Sampling of Fowl Slaughtered under the New Poultry Inspection System
This notice reissues instructions to inspection program personnel for the sampling of fowl carcasses at establishments operating under the New Poultry Inspection System, previously provided in FSIS Notice 39-22, FSIS Sampling of Fowl Slaughtered under the New Poultry Inspection System as Authorized by Waiver.
Notice of Decision To Authorize the Importation of Fresh Leaves and Stems of Garland Chrysanthemum From Mexico Into the U.S.
USDA is advising the public of their decision to authorize the importation into the continental United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands of fresh leaves and stems of Garland Chrysanthemum from Mexico. Based on the findings of a pest risk analysis, which USDA has made available to the public for review and comment through a previous notice, they have determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of fresh leaves and stems of Garland Chrysanthemum from Mexico
Updated Cell-Cultured Meat and Poultry Products Sampling Program
This notice cancels FSIS Notice 27-23, Cell-Cultured Meat and Poultry Food Products Sampling Program, dated 6/23/23. The notice has been updated to reflect sampling of ready-to-eat products. The notice also provides instructions to inspection program personnel on how to collect cell-cultured meat and poultry food products and send samples to the FSIS Eastern Laboratory for microbiological, chemical residue, speciation testing, and pathology. Finally, this notice provides instructions to Enforcement, Investigations and Analysis Officers on how to collect food contact surface and environmental swab samples at cell-cultured meat and poultry food product establishments and submit the samples to the FSIS Western Laboratory for testing.
